MARKET UPDATE 25TH MARCH 2014

WANT TO TREAT YOURSELF AND THE “FAM” THIS WEEK?

Try the new season Australian Imperial Mandarins – they are absolutely divine!

On special this week are our sweet, succulent Custard Apples; a fruit quite unusual in appearance with its heart shape, soft white flesh, shiny black seeds and bumpy appearance.

Definitely customers, put that one on your list to try!

Another great special this week at Fred’s One Stop Shopping, are the Black American Grapes which are in fact, quite similar to the Black Muscat but have a less pronounced flavor.

Apples are good this week as are the other varieties of Grapes that make for a healthy afternoon snack.
A true favorite for preserving and a peach that makes for excellent eating, the Golden Queen Peach classic variety of fruit for those interested, originated from New Zealand in 1908

Unfortunately, Rockmelons and Honeydews although still good to eat, have risen slightly in price

Have you been “hangin” just waiting for the winter fruit to arrive?

It’s all here at Fred’s – Fuyu, Persimmons, Mangosteen and Rambutans and all in good quantities.

Shepard Avocados are currently magnificent; this smooth green skin variety with its golden buttery flesh does not turn brown when cut which is a very solid reason to choose the Shepard variety when entertaining, because as we know, appearance can sometimes be everything!

At long last the price of vegetables has abated due mainly to the warm weather we have been experiencing.
Snow Peas are excellent for taste and price which is great news for our loyal customers.

Beans, Broccoli, Caulies and Corn are good as are the Cherry Tomatoes which can believe it or not, be frozen in order to preserve them – it’s quick, it’s convenient, and it doesn’t require blanching or peeling.

Freezing whole tomatoes also locks in all those good-for-you nutrients found in the skins.
