Market Update 13th March 2019

William Pears are a top buy this week!

Persimmon season has arrived! Sweet Persimmon aka Fuji Fruit, despite looking like the traditional Persimmon, can be eaten hard and crispy. Their tangerine coloured flesh makes a tasty addition to salads and cheese boards

Pomegranates are also in season. Increasingly recognised as a fruit rich in antioxidants and savoured for dynamic ruby-coloured nectar and arils.

Chomp into some tasty and very crispy new season Royal Gala, Delicious, Golden Delicious Apples this week.

In stone fruit this week we have some late season Plums such as Teagan Blue, October Sun and Autumn Giant

Pop some Figs into the shopping trolley. The quality is excellent this week! Naturally sweet Figs taste delightful when sliced and served with muesli. Alternatively, add them to a salad or enjoy them grilled or baked

For something super-sweet, pick up a bunch of Sultana Grapes. The red-skinned Crimson Seedless variety are a choice buy for quality, crunch and value!

Pop on into Fred’s One Stop for the Queen of Fruit Mangosteen. Traditionally from South East Asia where the Mangosteen (Garcinia Mangostana) has long been revered for its Xanthones and antioxidant properties

Sweet Corn is a choice buy at Fred’s this week!

Bok Choy, Choy Sum and other leafy Asian Greens are terrific value and make a healthy and colourful addition to any stir-fry

Carrots are currently very tasty and good value

Okra aka Lady’s Fingers are in store. Okra has a green furry pod that is often used in soups, casseroles and curried dishes. Also delicious when battered and deep fried

Good value and in season are our Shepard Avocados. This smooth-skinned green variety of Avocado possesses a golden, buttery fleshy that does not turn brown when cut

If you are hankering for that special treat, then don’t go past our fresh Pistachio Nuts that are traditionally only available for 4-5 weeks of the year.  The attractive soft, pink and yellow mottled skin covers the hard, semi spit shell whilst the the nut itself is mild tasting with a creamy texture.
