Market update 12th August 2012

This is the best time of the year for apples with new season Pink Lady and Granny Smith apples being readily available and of excellent quality. Gala Apples are good while Fuji Apples are very crisp and juicy.

In season Blood Oranges are the best for making juice at the moment so take advantage of the next 3 or 4 weeks when this particular orange is at its best.

Queensland berries are now in season. The quality is excellent and the prices have improved so now is probably the best time for both quality and value. Unfortunately, Blueberries are still out of season and very expensive.

If Bananas are your favourite fruit then be patient, the prices should improve over the coming weeks while Navel oranges are very good.

Vegetable supply still continues to be difficult with Corn, Tomatoes, Beans and Broccoli being dearer than they were last week.

So what does Fred recommend for the week?

Pick up some Murcott Mandarins and English Spinach…they are on special this week at Fred’s One Stop Shopping; the place where all your weekly groceries, fruit and vegetables, meat and fish requirements can be purchased under the one roof.
