Maintain a Healthy Weight with Avocados!
Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats.  Healthy fats assist in controlling our appetite by releasing hormones in the intestine that indicate fullness hence, for those who are watching their waistline, you can still eat avocados.

Avocado are Rich in Antioxidants!
Avocados are jam-packed with Antioxidants.  The exquisite green and yellow hues of Avocados originate from the natural antioxidant pigments Chlorophyll (green) and Carotenoids – Beta Carotene (orange) and Lutein and Zeaxanthin (yellow). The orange and yellow colour are fat soluble and play significant roles in maintaining Eye Health. A rich source of the fat-soluble Vitamin E which needs Vitamin C to work properly hence, it is no surprise that Avocados are also rich in vitamin C.

Avocado to boost absorption of carotenoids
Fats in Avocados assist the body to absorb Carotenoids from other vegetables. Research suggests that by adding a small amount of avocado (75-150g) to salads, helps to absorb the colourful pigments from lettuce, carrot, spinach and other veggies. Notably, the more Avocado added to the salad, the more carotenoids were absorbed.

Avocados are a great source of Fibre!
As with all plant foods, Avocados are an excellent source of Fibre with approximately 4g per 100g or 13% of the Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) for adults. Fibre assists in keeping our digestive system healthy as well as giving us that sensation of fullness and satisfaction between meals.

Avocados for a Healthy Heart!
Did you know that approximately 2/3 of the total Fat content in an avocado is Monounsaturated Fat and that monounsaturated fats are important in maintaining a healthy heart? Research has found that as part of a Cholesterol -Reducing diet, Avocados can lower total and LDL cholesterol while increasing the HDL cholesterol. Additionally, fibre also makes the avocado a ‘Heart Smart’ choice. 

An excellent source of Folate!
Folate is vital for the growth and development of cells. Women of child bearing age need to consume at least 400 micrograms of Folate per day at least three months after conception. It is suggested that a varied diet rich in Folate, including Avocado, may reduce the risk of neural tube defects in babies. One quarter of an Avocado has approximately 60 micrograms of Folate which accounts to15% of the recommended daily amount.
